Domain Name FAQ

What is a Domain Name?
A Domain Name is an alias name that points to an IP Address. For example, when someone wants to find your web site on the Internet, they can enter www.yourname.com instead of 66.253.xxx.xxx.

How do I get a new domain name?

Domain names are the real estate of the Internet, there can only be one owner of a specific name. If you wanted www.google.com, you cannot have it as someone already owns that name. To try to find a domain name simply proceed with the order process and the first step is to locate a domain name. (If you have troubles finding a good name then we can help!)

Why would I move my Domain Name?

If you already have a domain name and you are paying more than $20 a year for it, then you should consider moving it to our provider. If you are interested in this, just let us know.

I know how to setup domain names, what are the details/settings that I need to know?

1. Use the username Hickman-Systems for
the Technical Contact

2. Use the following nameservers:

a. NS.DOMAINNAMESERVERS.NET
66.253.126.254
b. NS2.DOMAINNAMESERVERS.NET
66.253.127.254

How long does it take for my Domain Name to be visible on the Internet?

It usually takes about 3 to 4 business days before your domain name is visible to the Internet at-large. Once the registar shows that your domain name has been transfered (set up to point to us), it can take an additional 1 to 2 days for the domain name to be recognized by the Internet at-large because the domain name may be cached with an old IP Address at the ISP level.

If you use your site's IP Address instead of the domian name, you can setup and view your site immediately on our servers.

Do I own the Domain Name that I register?

Yes, You are the owner of your own Domain Name. You can take it with you if you decide not to use our services anymore.

How much does a Domain Name Cost?

We only charge $20 per year for your domain name. You may find that some providers charge $35 a year or more!

What extension can I have on the end of my Domain Name?

The most common domain name extensions are com, net, and org. Of them, the most common extension is .com. If the domain that you want is not available, you can use net or org.

There are many other extensions available, some are country names and some are an expansion on the primary three listed above. In any case we can help you get access to them.

Check if your web site is still available.
